What software or programs remove vocals from a song?
For example I found this song played without vocals and it sounds nice. Then it occur to me that I wanna try the same but with different songs. Any suggestion of type of free programs that does this?
Don’t get your hopes up. This doesn’t work for all songs. It depends on how they are mixed in the studio.
Download Audacity:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Lame if needed to encode and save to mp3:
http://lame.sourceforge.net/
Basic tutorial:
http://www.guidesandtutorials.com/audacity-tutorial.html
Method:
This is possible only for certain stereo tracks. When the vocals are exactly the same on both stereo channels, you can remove them by “subtracting” one channel from the other. This works for many studio recordings, where the vocal track is mixed exactly in the center. Be aware that bass and drums are usually panned to the center and can be removed or reduced also. Depending on how the track was mixed the vocal may only be reduced, not fully removed.
To do this in Audacity 1.2:
1. Import your stereo file into Audacity.
2. Open the track menu (click the arrow next to the track title), and choose “Split Stereo Track.”
3. Select the lower track (the right channel) by clicking it in the area around the mute/solo buttons.
4. Choose “Invert” from the Effects menu.
5. Using the track menus, change each track to “Mono.”
Press the Play button to hear the results. If you are lucky, the voice will be gone but most of the other instruments will be unaffected, just like a karaoke track. You can use the Export commands in the File menu to save the results.
Audacity 1.3:
Has a vocal remover built in. Just select the whole track then vocal remover from the effect menu.
How can you get rid of the main vocals of a song leaving only the background and backup vocals behind?
Is there any free programs that can edit a song leaving only the background music and supporting vocals?
Basically this cannot be done.
If you had a billion-dollar recording studio, this still could not be done.
You see, when they record music in a studio they record each "part" (vocals, bass, drums etc) on a separate channel. However, by the time it reaches you the consumer, all these tracks (sometimes hundreds of them) are mixed down to just two channels (left and right). If you have the original multi-track recordings then muting one channel is easy, but with the copy that you have you can only mute the left or the right. This leaves you with one last (and notoriously awful) option – to try and filter out the frequency ranges in question. Firstly this needs a reasonable amount of knowledge about sound itself, but it also hardly ever gets acceptable results.
Sorry to burst your bubble
What do you call a music track that has no verse or main vocals, but a few backing vocals on it?
Like, the song is playing, but the main verse vocals are gone. There are a few backing vocals here and there for like the ends of sentences and stuff. I don’t think it’s called an instrumental since there are still vocals present.
A backing track.
How do you take the vocals off of a song?
I am making a song to aint no mountain high enough for school, and I am using garage band. How do I take the vocals off so that in the song the listener will just be able to hear my voice not the singers.
My daughter did this for a school project. She borrowed a karaoke machine, played the cd and recorded the song minus vocals on a tape recorder. Less high tech than garage band, but it worked for her.
How do you remove vocals from back ground music, without deleting the vocals?
Can someone please help me remove vocals from background music, but being able to keep the vocals and delete the back ground music.
Or please suggest a simple program to do it.
Thanks.
Thanks, but i’ve already tried audacity. It didn’t help at all.
Do you have any other ideas?
You can try to use audacity and use the vocal remover, you would need to figure out the frequency that the vocals are on and delete everything except those frequencies. It probably still wont work, removing vocals from a mix is kinda like trying to remove flour from pancake batter.
How do i remove vocals from a song?

How do I record my vocals in mixcraft without recording music in the background?
everytine I play an instrumental and pressing record to record myself, I always get my vocals recorded and so as the background instrumental playing. and it all turns up bad.. I just want my vocals to record on one track and the instrumental separated to the other track. anyone help???
ps: im only using a mic that straight up connects to the pink hole in the computer. do i need anything else that might help my problem get solved?
thanks in advanced
If the sound is coming in through the microphone, headphones are the answer (as the other person posted). If that’s not the problem, you’ve got the wrong recording source selected. Click on the little arrow next to the Arm button on the recording track and select your microphone. Do not select anything general like "stereo mix" or "what you hear." Choosing the correct recording source here will fix this problem.
How can I remove the vocals from an audio track?
I want to take an audio track, like an MP3 and remove/reduce the vocals. Are there any programs or software that can do this for me?
You could try the Winamp, there’s an extra software called Pacemaker. I know my brother’s pianno teacher used it You can check it here: www.winamp.com/plugins/details/12689
How can I remove vocals from a song and also make a remix?
What I am looking for is a program that I can use to remove the vocals from a song. (you know the persons voice)? So this way I can have the vocals on one track as an mp3 and the song as an instrumental.
Also- I use fruity loops to make beats and stuff. What other program can i use to take a vocal and mix it with my beat so that they match together? or can i do it directly in fruityloops?
You cannot remove the vocals from a track. You will need an Accapella and a Instrumental version of the song.Check to see if your song/s were released as a 12" single most of them have Accapellas and Instrumentals.
Other than that you would need the Master Copy of the track.
You could try and adjust the EQ frequencies , it really depends on what song/genre of music your working with.Example a track with just Vocals and Bass you cut the Bass and left with the vocals ,though it still may not come out right. But majority of tracks are more complex than that.
As far as Mashups , I heard of Fruity Loops but never used it. I use Ableton Live it does the job of matching the key and beats of songs .
How do I strip the vocals out of an mp3 file using Audacity?
I’ve got a song that I want to strip the vocals out of, but keep the instrumentals, and I already have Audacity, but any free sound editor will do.
Unfortunately there’s no magic button that indefinitely removes the vocals from a song, often distortions will be left behind, this is especially so with more modern stereo tracks due to the song being spread over different sound sources. Certain programs like audacity enable you to split the track into different channels. Audacity’s own tutorial goes through a number of different processes, i’ll summaries them for you, however for a more in depth look, best look at the source site provided.
For songs where the vocals are in the middle and the instrumental parts surround split the stereo track into its left and right channels, make both mono, invert all (or a selected part) of one of them, and play back the result.
If you have an unusual stereo track where the vocals are mixed hard into one channel and everything else hard into the other channel, you can simply split the stereo track into left and right and delete the vocal channel. To split a stereo track in Audacity, click on the downward pointing arrow at the top of the Track Panel (where the mute/solo buttons are ) then on Split stereo track. To delete one of the channels, click the [X] to left of the downward pointing arrow. Finally, click the downward pointing arrow again and choose "Mono".
It can get very complicated and in most circumstances proves highly ineffective, sometimes when bands release a catchy song, they’ll also release an instrumental version as well that can be found in special edition albums or around the internet.
Hope that can help at all, maybe if you posted the song you wanted it may be easier for the sound experts to tell you whether its possible without specialist sound tools.
