Heavy Metal – So Beautiful, So Dangerous (1981)

An excerpt from a cult animation film that was effectively covert for many teenagers of the time. Juvenile, but enjoyable.

So Beautiful, So Dangerous: Based on the original story by Angus McKie. A scientist (Dr. Anrack) arrives at the Pentagon for a meeting about mysterious mutations that are plaguing the United States. At the meeting, Dr. Anrack tries to dismiss the occurrences, but when he sees the green stone (Loc-Nar) in the buxom stenographer’s (Gloria’s) locket, he starts behaving erratically, goes berserk, and attempts to sexually assault her. In the sky above, a colossal ship with a smiley face design breaks through the roof with a transport tube and sucks up the berserk Dr. Anrack and Gloria. The robot inside the ship is irritated at Anrack, who is actually a malfunctioning android, but his mood changes when Gloria arrives. With the help of the ship’s hippie crew, he convinces Gloria to stay on board and become his lover (she even agrees to marry him, provided they have a Jewish wedding). Meanwhile, the hippie crew members ingest a massive amount of plutonian nyborg and fly home completely stoned, crash landing in a huge space station.

  1. Yes it is, do you …
Yes it is, do you think that movie is raunchier then Heavy Metal and more gorier? afterall HM is softcore while Urotsukidoji is hardcore even with those horrifying animated tentacle rape scenes.

  2. yeah that Legend of …
yeah that Legend of the Overfiend cartoon is hardcore explicit sex.

  3. Awesome, and was it …
Awesome, and was it your first time seeing tits and pubic hair in animation? and do you think Taarna is a dish for a toon? and do you think The Fifth Element got ideas from this movie Sid?

  4. I remember my dad …
I remember my dad had this on his shelf in the library. I would sneak and watch it whenever I got the chance. *lol*

  5. 7:57 the ever …
7:57 the ever present mcdonalds is there, even on a spacestation in a 1981 film.

  6. yeah but you cant …
yeah but you cant compare the two movies. ones a great classic, and the other is…yeah, extreme, pornish (very), sick, and very enjoyable (IMO). but heavy metal is something totally different. Its art, and its based on years of artist making an art revolution. legend of the overfiend is just one, extreme, sick (yet great) film. its cool, and its hardcore…its a great film, but heavy metal is a long following…its just not the same.

  7. I thought the same …
I thought the same thing for years, until i realized “its a ship, within a ship”. the robot’s personal love den is actually within a small escape pod, or small cargo ship. if you look at the rest of the ship in the background (when they step out of the pod, into a sort of garage), it shows you how big the “pacman” ship really is. I think it must be huge.

  8. Do you think Taarna …
Do you think Taarna is one fine piece of ass? oh man i just wanna suck on her tits, feel that snow between her legs and do any kinky thing to her.

And would you compare this animated movie to “Wicked City”? afterall they do offer sex and gore in animation.

  9. Hey man, it’s not …
Hey man, it’s not really porn. You want some cartoon porn, seek out the controversial 1989 anime movie “Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend” from Japan. Nothing but pure graphic gore, graphic sex, tentacle rape and excess around that makes Heavy Metal look wimpy in comparison.

  10. I thought this was …
I thought this was the best segment of the entire film, IMO I prefer this segment over “Taarna” which I didn’t think too much of

  11. man I was sure you …
man I was sure you were there, but i thought you got melted along with the rest of the house when i started trippin to hard….sorry I never tried calling back…tell yer dad I said thanks for the weed, and for showing us those sexy photos of yer step-mom. what a trip :)

    I think I was there.

  13. i’ve heard ppl say …
i’ve heard ppl say that 5th element is based on heavy metal, i can’t really say for sure. one thing that bugs me is the french saying how great luc besson is, its like a trophy for french cinema, but it was all done with american money and american actors (-1)..on the other hand, few ppl know that heavy metal magazine actually started as a french magazine. google “wiki heavy metal magazine”. then try to find “fluid glacial” (french mag) with google image search, see a resemblance?

  14. love the …
love the description: covert for teenagers. ahhh yes it was…..and so much more…one of the best films of my life, being 14, tripping acid back in the mid 80’s. those were the days. that and pink floyd the wall. black lights and black light posters, weed, butane and acid, and mountain dew. my friends dad was cool, when we watched this he waited for his wife to go to sleep, took his stash out from a sock and let us smoke bongs to the movie. man that was the shit!

1:40 john candy: “very reoccurring” never noticed his voice there before.

  16. yes WTF?
    yes WTF?

  17. Is that Leonard …
Is that Leonard Nimoy at 0:42?

  18. Anyone else catch …
Anyone else catch the error of the girl and robot getting off the ship BEFORE it landed?

The characters weren’t the only ones stoned.

    hahahaha

  19. Yeah, I hadn’t …
Yeah, I hadn’t thought of the cab driver, yes, definitely some parallels there.

  20. Do you think this …
Do you think this movie influenced Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element? same kind of spicy yet unique view of the future and the same futuristic cab driver thing.

  21. I think it’s got …
I think it’s got the cosmic element of Japanese animation, but it’s much more tongue-in-cheek. Japanese animation often has that religious end-times/rebirth thing going on: the world is filthy and corrupt but a saviour will come and cleanse the world. Yes, I can see a bit of Twilight Zone: short episodes. I think Heavy Metal is for both teenagers and adults; there’s a lot of adult humour; it also takes the out of its own genre.
Akira and Playboy, heh heh. Akira is great.

  22. Do you think “Heavy …
Do you think “Heavy Metal” compares to Japanese animation in terms of mature audiences animation?

And do you think this movie is kind of like “The Fifth Element” meets “Twilight Zone The Movie” (Similar Sci-fi/horror/fantasy anthology) and “Akira” and “Playboy”?

  23. Oh yes, I know …
Oh yes, I know Urotsukidoji, saw it ten years ago; definitely hardcore compared to this. I think a man nearly gets his penis bitten off by a mutant woman with teeth in her pussy.

  24. The movie isn’t …
The movie isn’t that pornographic, you want pornography, violent and perverse animated movie then see “Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend”. Infamous and controversial Japanese animated NC-17 rated horror fantasy featuring scenes of rape, tentacles from demons chicks, gore, mutilation, exploding heads, bisexuality, fellatio, and every excess. Makes “Heavy Metal” look like “Hellraiser”, it’s more adult then Heavy Metal and more X-Rated.

  25. The green alien is …
The green alien is voiced by my man Harold Ramis and the prrple alien is voiced by Eugene Levy.
