Where is the line between hard rock and heavy metal?
Some bands are obviously one or the other, as they just have that sound. But where does hard rock turn into heavy metal?
MQ: What bands could be considered as one or the other?
Quite Riot = hard rock
Iron Maiden = Heavy Metal
Black Sabbath = (kind of light but still heavy) Doom Metal
early Ozzy = Hard Rock – IN MY OPINION
that is my example

I think their bluesy-ness level is a part.
That’s why Led Zeppelin is not metal.

hard rock turns into heavy metal with leather trousers and back combed hair. And that’s just the men. Also heavy metal usually mentions Lucifer quite a lot

In my opinion the line is where most people won`t listen to it anymore.
Like I would call Breaking Benjamin hard rock and Slipknot heavy metal.
