Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth and the cast performing the song, ‘Defying Gravity’, from ‘Wicked: A New Musical’ at a preview performance on Broadway in New York. This was released for the press and for television programmes.

@TheTieDiePrincess she has to sing very fast, with very few pauses inbetween, and she has to really push it out you know, she singing very powerfully and loudly. Its exhausting and very hard to do. A lot of pop stars do it too, only on the CD’s the breaths are erased by technology. Live, its very different.

Actually what it is …
Actually what it is, what happened, is that she was tricked by the Wizard into giving his “pet monkey” wings, because he told her a story of how he loved to watch the birds fly and he wanted to give him the ability to fly himself, so she cast the spell. but then the Wizard reveals that she gave his army of monkeys wings, and that he was going to use them as spies against the Animals he was persecuting. To which Elphaba was angry and ran off with the Grimmerie (magic book).

Not for killing monkeys, she cast a spell trying to free them, but mistakenly gave them wings which the Wizard thought was an abomination.

Actually, when her make-up’s done in the right way, there are recent appearances by Kristin when she could easily pass for early 30s. And how easy would it be for them to use technology to make her look young? Benjamin Button anybody?
As for Idina, she doesn’t have the vocals anymore to play Elphaba. Listen to her Wicked London performances. Playing Elphaba has wrecked her voice.
