How do you thread a needle on a Singer Esteem 1732 sewing machine?

My sister just got a Singer Esteem 1732 sewing machine, and she’s having a little trouble getting it started, specifically, with threading the needle. She can’t really understand the instructions or the diagrams. Any ideas?

In general, it runs off the spool, usually through an eyelet, through the tensions, to the takeup arm, to an eyelet or two near the needle, and through the eye of the needle.

If she’s doing that, and it’s not sewing or not sewing well, is this one of the Singer models that threads from the inside to the outside? Is the needle in the correct orientation?
