Old singer sewing machine, million threads coming out of throat plate?
I have a singer sewing machine from the 70’s. I thread the bobbin like I’ve always done but when I start to stitch and lift the foot and move the fabric tons of threads come out of the hole in the throat plate. What could be wrong?
Just like your car, you need to take your machine for a tune up once in a while. Go to a store which sells sewing machines, they often do tune ups and repairs.
I take mine about every 5 years cause I don’t sew very often.
Good luck!

That is what I call Bobbin Art. Usually I find that this means that the tension is off. This could be the bobbin tension ( the little screw on the side of the bobbin). When you hold the piece of thread that is coming out of the bobbin case it should hold. If you shake it it should let some thread out but catch again. If that is set right then you would move on to the spool tension. Somewhere during the threading process you should be passing through two metal disks there should be a knob there that sets the tension. It probably would need to be set to a higher number.
If these steps do not work then I would also suggest taking it in for a tune-up.
Hope that this was helpful.

I would suggest that is time for a servicing. Take it to a shop that will clean and tune up your machine, and not just tell you it is too old and try to sell you a new plastic wonder.
They can also check to see if it has any problems inside, some 70’s singers have plastic gears and they do wear out.
Good luck!

I’m guessing this is the Touch and Sew model which threads differently with the self winding bobbin. Most likely your not threading it right or your needle is not in the right way.
But whatever kind it is I’m putting a link here to threading diagrams for all machines. Scroll down to Singer and look for your machine and click on it. Then thread your machine as depicted.
Good luck.
