How can you get rid of the main vocals of a song leaving only the background and backup vocals behind?

Is there any free programs that can edit a song leaving only the background music and supporting vocals?

Basically this cannot be done.
If you had a billion-dollar recording studio, this still could not be done.

You see, when they record music in a studio they record each "part" (vocals, bass, drums etc) on a separate channel. However, by the time it reaches you the consumer, all these tracks (sometimes hundreds of them) are mixed down to just two channels (left and right). If you have the original multi-track recordings then muting one channel is easy, but with the copy that you have you can only mute the left or the right. This leaves you with one last (and notoriously awful) option – to try and filter out the frequency ranges in question. Firstly this needs a reasonable amount of knowledge about sound itself, but it also hardly ever gets acceptable results.

Sorry to burst your bubble :(
